Corrections policy
Accuracy is a process, not a badge.
How we assess, correct and communicate factual errors in published work.
If evidence changes or we get something wrong, the useful response is to fix the record clearly and promptly.
What counts as a correction
A correction addresses an inaccurate fact, misleading omission, incorrect calculation, broken attribution or wording that materially changes a reasonable reader’s understanding.
How to report an issue
Use the Contact page. Include the page URL, disputed passage, reason it appears wrong and a primary source where possible. Do not send personal account documents or credentials.
How we assess reports
- An editor checks the published claim and cited evidence.
- Material facts are compared with regulator records, official terms or another appropriate primary source.
- The correction is drafted, reviewed and published.
- Where appropriate, a note explains what changed and why.
Types of update
| Update | How it is handled |
|---|---|
| Minor edit | Spelling, grammar or formatting that does not alter meaning may be fixed without a note. |
| Material correction | Factual changes that affect meaning receive a clear correction or update note. |
| Developing information | Articles are updated as verified facts emerge, with the reviewed date changed. |
| Retraction | Content that cannot be responsibly repaired may be withdrawn with an explanation. |
Right of reply
People and organisations materially criticised may submit evidence or context. A right of reply does not guarantee publication and does not override our evidence standards.
